As an avid role-player for decades, I have followed every incarnation of the venerable Dungeons & Dragons game starting with AD&D (and Classic BCEMI D&D) playing all versions to date… save 4th Edition. To me 4th edition did not feel like Dungeons & Dragons. It was a good game by design standards, but it was not my D&D.
With D&D Next, or 5th edition, I am cautiously optimistic with what I have read so far. I have been unable to get a playtest group together yet, but I hope to do so sometime this year. This version, so far, feels like a modern version D&D to me yet still have elements of every other versions.
I am partway into reading the current playtest, and I plan on breaking it down a bit when I am finished. We shall see if it holds up to what I am looking for in a new version of Dungeons & Dragons.
